Washington : An Indian origin researcher at Penn State University has developed a search engine, which not only identifies and extracts tables from PDF documents, but also indexes and ranks the search results using factors that include the table's title, text references to the table and the date of its publication.
Penn State researchers have developed a search engine -- TableSeer -- which not only can identify and extract tables from PDF documents but also can index and rank the search results using factors including the table's title, text references to the table and date of publication.
ChemxSeer, the first publicly available search engine designed specifically for chemical formulae, can sort out when "He" refers to helium and not a person more than nine times out of 10, according to the Penn State College of Information Sciences and Technology researchers who created the tool.
Updated: 05 Jun 2007 Microsoft Corp. research on Internet user profiling could lead to tools that help repressive regimes identify anonymous dissidents, the Reporters Without Borders advocacy group warned last Friday.

televisions or video equipment, but in a single chip.
Texas Instruments, or TI, is building a single chip
"platform" out of components and software that had required
five to eight specialized chips to perform the same functions,
it said.
Other major chip makers are pursuing platform strategies of
their own.

Although the company is specifically targeting developers in Brazil, China, India and Russia, their peers elsewhere in the world will also be able to access the courses from their desktops, according to IBM executives.

Last year, in emerging markets around the world, more than 400 developers a day signed up to join IBM's developer networks, according to Mark Hanny, IBM vice president for independent software vendors and developer relations in emerging markets.
