The site?s founders take a jab at mainstream press coverage in a letter on the Web site, saying Scoop08 will "transcend horse-race politics, focusing instead on the substance -- the characters behind the candidates, the big ideas behind the rhetoric, the trends behind the headlines."

The companies have started work on four proposed Web services standards, and certain Sun hardware products have been certified to support Windows Server software.
Microsoft Spokesman Jim Desler said the companies have made “small but incremental progress” during the past year. “I think we have been realistic from the outset that this was not really going to be judged by days or weeks or one year, but really where the companies are going in the next five to 10 years,” he said.

For emergency 911 services on the wired network, Haltom says, all PBXs collapse back to the TDM architecture. The service can work without an Internet connection, instead tapping a local Wi-Fi network, Ribaudo said.
The service requires a client that supports Windows, Mac OS X and Pocket PC. Jambo is partnering with universities, conference and event producers and providers of Wi-Fi hotspots to deliver the service, and it will begin a pilot in the next few weeks at New York's LaGuardia Airport, Ribaudo said.
